Grove to Unleash the LIGER this Session

January 13, 2025

HARRISBURG – As the incoming Republican chairman of the House Labor and Industry Committee, Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) will unleash the LIGER, Labor and Industry Government Efficiency Roundtable, this coming session.

Grove’s LIGER initiative is a series of policy roundtable discussions to be held throughout the session on issues under the committee’s purview and will focus on improving government efficiency, effectiveness and accountability.

“LIGER will help us identify problems and define solutions to issues to come before the committee,” Grove said. “These discussions will include Republican committee members, stakeholders and Pennsylvanians who have been negatively impacted by a bloated bureaucracy to discuss how state government can cut waste, streamline operations and roll back government overreach.”

As the committee addresses issues and takes up bills to come before it, Grove said three questions must first be answered:

   • Is everything the agency does now necessary?
   • How can the agency streamline its administration of existing programs to improve service and eliminate waste?
   • Are the agency’s enforcement practices fair and commensurate with an alleged violation?

“Before we even consider expanding the reach of a state agency and increasing the number of rules it enforces, we need to help it improve what it does now,” Grove said. “Serving as the minority committee chair, our largest task will be to truly vet legislation put forth by the majority to ensure it will not negatively impact Pennsylvanians. LIGER will help House Republicans gain additional knowledge about issues residents are facing.”

The House Labor and Industry Committee helps to develop legislation relating to workforce development, unemployment and workers’ compensation, minimum wage, prevailing wage, child labor laws, and more. Standing House committees are responsible for vetting and fine-tuning legislation before it goes to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
