York College Project Receives Nearly $350,000 in State Assistance as Knowledge Park Partnerships Continue to Grow

October 25, 2024

HARRISBURG – State Reps. Seth Grove (R-York) and Carol Hill-Evans (D-York) along with Sens. Mike Regan (R-Cumberland & York) and Kristin Phillips-Hill announced today York College of Pennsylvania will receive state financial assistance to continue to renovate a once-blighted papermill site on its campus.

“York College is a vital part of the York County community,” Grove said. “It is important to remember York College does not receive direct state funding like state-related and PA State System of Higher Education schools do every year. Investments like this have a huge return on investment for the citizens of York County.”

“This funding will help York College continue to invest in our students and community,” York College President Thomas Burns, Ph.D said. “We have incredible partnerships connected to Knowledge Park. This grant will help us continue to tailor the site to become exactly what our partners need.”

Knowledge Park is a trailblazing project that will house York-area businesses.

MANTEC, a non-profit manufacturing service partner dedicated to meeting the needs of small and mid-sized manufacturing enterprises, will be Knowledge Park’s newest tenant. $349,978 from a state grant will be used to build a world-class office space and training facility at Knowledge Park.

The partnership with York College at Knowledge Park will foster collaboration around innovation clusters and the college’s academic resources.

"York College's Knowledge Park is a shining example of how public-private partnerships can drive innovation and economic growth. By transforming a historic site into a hub for creativity, collaboration, and cutting-edge research, this project not only preserves our heritage but also propels our community into the future,” Pennsylvania State Senator Mike Regan said.

Sen. Regan, Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill and State Representative Carol Hill-Evans played a major role in securing funding for York College and MANTEC’s long term plan in Knowledge Park.

“I am always happy to advocate for resources that will benefit with 95th legislative district. Given the long history with York College, I am especially pleased to be able to bring additional funding to the Knowledge Park project,” Rep. Hill-Evans said.

“This endeavor is a win for our students, it’s a win for our employers, it’s a win for our county, and it’s a win for our future,” Sen. Phillips-Hill said. “I am proud to support this effort and look forward to seeing the dividends this initiative will pay over the many years down the road.”

Funding for this project was provided from the Local Share Account, which receives its funding from the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71), which provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
