HARRISBURG – In response Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to increase spending by $6.2 billion, the York County House Republican delegation consisting of House Appropriations Chairman Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion), House State Government Committee Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover), Game and Fisheries Committee Chairman Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam) and Reps. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg) and Mike Jones (R-York Township) issued the following statement:
“What the governor essentially asked for during his speech today was a blank check to drastically increase spending that will negatively impact each and every Pennsylvanian long after Wolf leaves office. What’s more, the governor based his increase on fantasy revenue math that, quite simply, doesn’t add up and is somehow $5 billion higher than projections tallied by the Independent Fiscal Office.
“We in the House Republican Caucus worked hard to combat Wolf’s tax increases in his previous spending proposals. The result of which was saving taxpayers from losing money all while securing Pennsylvanian’s fiscal house. In the 11th hour of his last term in office, the governor wants to bring the house crashing down, leaving members of the General Assembly fortunate enough to serve the people in the coming years a massive financial mess to clean up. Should the governor get his unsustainable spending this year, it would be an expensive generational mess that would be paid for by hard-working taxpayers for decades to come.
“As we have done in the past, House Republicans will stand against the egregious spending plan to protect taxpayers. The people of Pennsylvania deserve the real facts, not some fairytale story based on arbitrary revenue projections put out by the governor. To that end, the House Appropriations Committee will begin its budget hearings next week to get a true sense of Pennsylvania’s fiscal state. Through that process, we will work to create a fair budget that respects all taxpayers and provides for core functions of government.”
