The Philadelphia police are setting records with the number of arrests for citizens illegally carrying firearms, but convictions for such crimes have fallen to extreme lows. Conviction rates for individuals caught with illegal guns began dropping after District Attorney Krasner took office in 2018. People accused of illegally carrying guns in Philadelphia have increased by 41% from 2014-2019, however conviction rates have dropped 29% in the same timeframe. Even Philadelphia Mayor Jim Keeney (D) has said, “It's gotten to the point where there's no price to pay for carrying illegal guns, so people carry them because they don't think anything is going to happen”.
