Grove Condemns House Democrats Invoking UPMC Tragedy to Push Bill

March 25, 2025

HARRISBURG – House Democrats used the tragic shooting at UPMC Memorial in York, which left a police officer dead and six other officers and health care providers wounded, to push forward legislation today that would not have prevented the tragedy. House Labor and Industry Committee Republican Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover) issued the following statement:

“House Democrats played politics with a life-shattering incident that rocked our community. I wholeheartedly condemn their political stunt as they pushed House Bill 926 out of the House Labor and Industry Committee.

“During debate in committee, I outright asked the bill’s sponsor what in the bill would have prevented such a tragedy. Aspects of the bill she cited are already in place at the facility, yet the incident still occurred.

“There is nothing in this legislation that would have prevented the tragic incident. What the bill does is create more paperwork and reporting requirements. I am more than a little upset that the tragedy is being used by House Democrats as a political tool to move legislation we know would not have impacted the incident.”
