HARRISBURG – The York County Republican delegation to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives announced today they are strongly supporting the
Articles of Impeachment filed today against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner for failing to uphold his oath of office and wanton disregard for public safety.
The Articles of Impeachment cite, as misbehavior in office, Krasner’s mismanagement of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and his soft-on-crime criminal justice philosophy as having a direct and proximate negative impact on the crime and violence crisis gripping Philadelphia, which is a dereliction of his obligation to the people of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The delegation, consisting of House Appropriations Chairman Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion); House State Government Committee Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover); Game and Fisheries Committee Chairman Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam); and Reps. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg) and Mike Jones (R-York Township), issued the following statement:
“Mr. Krasner’s actions and inactions have directly led to violent crime in Philadelphia skyrocketing under his tenure. Yes, the residents of Philadelphia duly elected him. But the tidal wave of violent of crime sparked by Krasner threatens all of us.
“People have a right to vote for and elect whomever they want in the United States. If Philadelphians truly wish to live in a place where murders occur daily and murderers walk free, that is up to them. But there are repercussions for the rest of us too.
“All Pennsylvania taxpayers foot the bill for unchecked murders, looting, assault, burglary and car-jackings. We also pay in freedom lost – many folks change entire travel routes to avoid dangerous places like Philadelphia, Memphis or Chicago. Insurance rates go up. Stores eliminate evening hours or shut their doors and move somewhere safer.
“Like Krasner, we also took an oath of office to provide public safety and protect those who elected us to represent them. Unlike Mr. Krasner, we intend to keep that oath by removing him, and the danger he is fomenting, from office.”
